Description

Something completely different - at least as far as I'm concerned :) I've never done anything remotely like this painting before, not in any way. It was a great experience, and the research I had to go through with to finish it really taught me loads of stuff for my next painting :] It's a pity that I'll have to sit up alllll day and night tomorrow working because I used up all my spare time for the next few weeks, painting this

Aaaanyway, used photo references for the background because I've never painted anything similar. I'm pretty sure I messed it up, but after all - the learning experience is all that matters, eh? All done in Photoshop 7, because I haven't got Painter installed on my very crash-prone computer (it's had three crashes these past few weeks now. Yay.)

this definetly is different than ur usual stuff. but why am i not surprised. love the pose of the character and her short pants.
the larger version isn't much bigger than this one.

just curious why this? what inspired u to do something totally different?

The shadows of the archs should be a bit blurry cause of diffracton, they look too sharp at the top. it should be sharp at the bottom and get blurry as the arch is reached. well I think to much weed is messing with me eyes. *rubbing them*

me jaw drop as always

Thank you, guys :)

Nothing in particular inspired me. Only the feeling that I'm starting to stomp around in the same spot, and have a lack of direction. Wanted to try something new: throw myself, heedless of the risks, into something entirely new and see what comes out of it: learn new things and incorporate it into my other paintings in the future.

I think I'll always like portrait paintings the most, but why can't I do something in between, now that I've proved to myself that I can at least 'attempt' something like this? :]

Anything, I blabber: in short, inspiration was fear of stagnation. A yearning to try new things.

(edit) oh - and it took about two days to finish.

Bold composition. Note how the dark pillar brings out the flute and the lit forearm - the pillar could actually be extended a tiny bit to the right so it defines the forearm better; it can afforta that easily. Very good lighting, but there are inconsistencies in shadows, in form of uneven edges, and the girl's shadow is completely shapeless - please calculate the actual silhouetting from that angle and rework it. Then it will be outstanding. I'll reserve my vote until you get those shadows right so I could give you +10 in good conscience. :)

gorgeous, pal; i love the textures, the mood, and the figure of course. Very nice, thanks :).
I'm with arenhaus, his shadow is very odd, dirty.. is it intentional? maybe it is interesting for the theme (a fantastic character, whose shadow is blurred.. death and that stuff)

BTW, what's up with your computer?? do you use NT or XP, don't you?... you should take more care, and discover where the bug is.. :p

anyway, great pic!, I encorage you to keep trying new things, styles and themes :)

if i'am not wrong, i found an error in this pic: his/her shadow is too long compared to those casted by th arcs....
but the overall mood is incredible as always :) and it's interesting to see something a little different from your usual paintings ;)

Beautiful painting, I love the backround, very nice.

Great painting. But I do agree that the shadow of the person is somehow not right. First, it seems to be (for lack of a better term) vaporous. It doesn't look like a shadow that a solid opbject in such strong light would cast. And it also looks the wrong scale compared to the pillars (as was already stated earlier).

Otherwise, I think it's a great compostion. And your figures in most of your paintings are so real looking. Alsmost 3D but not plastic. Great job!

Gawd, what a nice nice try. Great color on the background. But i'm a lil bit agree with Aradiael. His/her shadow seems to be larger than it used to be. Don't get me wrong, i love your art, everyone's art in here. Goodwork!!

Oh, great reflection on the wall at the right side.

The Pied Piper? This is just beautiful. I see you've developed a penchant for violets and tans, such as those you used in your self portrait. Really gorgeous color combinations, so rich and atmospheric. A bit of symbollism here, as well. Interesting. The piece is just extraordinary. The tiles around his feet seem a bit strange, as if you were trying to indicate something, a figure of some sort, perhaps a carving? The tile his foot is on seems to sink in a bit further than the surrounding tiles and the tiles behind him seem warped as if they were being modified as he passed by them. Any meanings?

The light and shadow is wrong. The girl look like 3d pose and unatural. wors is girl shadow. Draw more with life and you will see mistakes easy.

It is cool to read some explanation about your paints and the process, i always wonder if you use photo-reference for your backgrounds, cause some of them looks very realistic.
Im hardcore fan of your art.

I think that this is one of your more awesome artworks, I like the painterliness to the background. I also like the 'wrong' shadow, quite a lot. It gives the impression of otherworldliness to the piping character. I know you won't, but I'll say it anyway, don't change a thing!

Lovely work again Linda. There is a warmth to the sunlight cascading into the hallway. The inside of which feels cooler, slightly damp even, on the areas that are not lit. This is added to by the bare feet of the piper. This image is marvelous; the fact that there are a couple of lighting anomalies does not detract from the emotion on the piece.

perfect form on the figure, and the background perspective is very well done. i love the contrasting colors and how the figure and her shadow seem to break up the composition, and balance it out.

Very mysterious image. The hall is ancient, and the person seems alone... perhaps wandering somewhere dangerous that he/she is not supposed to be. The viewer is kept unaware of what the character is looking at, what is outside the hall: the light is just before sunset, with the character facing west, and there's an uncertain glimpse of organic green at the end of the hall. The title, Euthanasia, adds another mystery... perhaps the sunset is meant to be on the same theme as a gentle death. After all, the scene could be idyllic, but it is sinister.
